According to Foot Mercato, the Ligue 1 club are close to signing PSV Eindhoven’s Jordan Teze, paving the way for the Brazilian to leave.
Tottenham sold Emerson Royal to AC Milan and are in the market for a replacement. His compatriot at Monaco is on their radar.
Vanderson was a mainstay for Monaco last term, bagging three goals and an assist in 20 Ligue 1 appearances.
The Brazil international joined Monaco in January 2022 from Gremio and has been a regular starter for Les Monegasques over the past two and a half seasons.
However, his time at the club could be coming to an end amid interest from Tottenham. Monaco value him at around £27 million.
Pedro Porro has the starting berth, but the club wants competition for places.
Tottenham cannot afford to spend that sum on a back-up player, especially when there are no plans to sell Porro anytime soon.
Djed Spence returned to the club this summer determined to prove himself. Manager Ange Postecoglou noticed his newfound motivation and decided to keep him around.
Despite playing around 40 minutes of football for Spurs in the two years since he joined, he could play a pivotal role this season, covering both full-back positions.
Postecoglou said (via football.london): “It was quite obvious last year that whenever we had disruptions in terms of injuries or suspensions, our performance dropped a fair bit. We are trying to narrow that gap.
“Hopefully, having Djed as part of our squad allows us to do that. He is training well. He is available for Monday, and I will make those decisions at the weekend.”
Given the circumstances, Tottenham should redirect their focus towards strengthening other areas of the team rather than splurging on a luxury back-up.
