Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali.
Spurs manager Roberto de Zerbi has identified Tonali as a key target. He believes his potential signing would be a huge statement for the club.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that the Italy international is open to joining Tottenham.
He said on his YouTube channel: “Sandro Tonali is ready to join Spurs even without European football, even after a terrible season for Tottenham Hotspur.
“Tonali is attracted by the project and wants to play for Roberto De Zerbi.
“So the possibility of Sandro Tonali at Tottenham is really serious and really concrete. Then let’s wait for the negotiation club to club.
“The understanding is that it could take around a €100 million package, so around £85 million. Let’s see. Tottenham are going very strong.”
Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in Tonali.
However, United and Arsenal consider a deal too expensive, while City’s priority midfield target is Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson.
Newcastle are not under pressure to sell Tonali, having sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for £69.3 million. They are unlikely to reduce Tonali’s valuation.
If Tottenham pull off a deal, it would be a great signing for the club. He is an ideal fit for De Zerbi’s style of play.
The 26-year-old’s ability to control games and win duels. His progressive passing ability would improve their midfield.
