Tottenham Hotspur showed significant interest in AS Monaco forward Maghnes Akliouche (23) during the summer window. Whilst they didn’t get a deal over the line then, the Premier League side retain their interest, Sacha Tavolieri understands.
No club was willing to meet Monaco’s €70m valuation in the summer. There was interest from the likes of Manchester City, who instead opted to sign Rayan Cherki; Paris Saint-Germain are long-term admirers; and The Athletic also report interest from Barcelona. The latter two’s interest is ongoing.
Tottenham also remain keen on Akliocuhe, according to Tavolieri. The Premier League side sent out representatives to watch the Monaco forward during France’s win over Azerbaijan in the most recent international break.
Spurs remain in the market for a playmaker, having missed out on Savinho and Morgan Gibbs-White over the summer. Speaking ahead of the game against Tottenham back in October, Akliouche evoked those links to Tottenham.
“It is always flattering to have these kinds of links. But I am a Monaco player and tomorrow, we will be playing against Tottenham Hotspur, and I will give it my all. A future move to the Premier League? Why not, but what is important is tomorrow’s match,” said Akliouche in a press conference attended by Get French Football News.
