Tottenham have released a statement denying that the club is up for sale following expressions of interest in buying owners ENIC’s shares.

It follows the announcement that Daniel Levy had stepped down as executive chairman of the club last week after nearly 25 years in the role.

Spurs have confirmed that there has been interest in purchasing the club but say those expressions have been rejected.

The statement said: “The board of Tottenham Hotspur Limited is aware of recent media speculation and confirms that its majority shareholder, ENIC Sports & Developments Holdings Ltd (ENIC), has received, and unequivocally rejected, separate preliminary expressions of interest in relation to proposals to acquire the entire issued, and to be issued, share capital of ENIC from (i) PCP International Finance Limited (“PCP”); and (ii) a consortium of investors led by Dr. Roger Kennedy and Wing-Fai Ng through Firehawk Holdings Limited.

“The board of the club and ENIC confirm that Tottenham Hotspur is not for sale and ENIC has no intention to accept any such offer to acquire its interest in the club.”

Peter Charrington has since been appointed as non-executive chairman of the club, following Levy’s departure.

Former Arsenal managing director Vinai Venkatesham was also appointed chief executive earlier this year.

ENIC, owned by Joe Lewis and his family, own 86.58 per cent of Tottenham, with the other 13.42 per cent of the club owned by minority investors.
