Cody Gapko’s character will be a ‘nice little bonus’ for Tottenham Hotspur, who have been heavily linked with the Liverpool attacker, if he joins, a Dutch journalist has claimed.

The Eindhoven-born attacker arrived at Anfield from PSV Eindhoven in 2023 and is tied to the club until 2030 under his current contract.

However, Tottenham have been making moves to bring him to north London this summer, and the club have been ‘in direct talks’ with Gapko’s entourage recently.

Under manager Roberto De Zerbi, Spurs have already made key additions to the squad and have also signed a former Liverpool player in the shape of Andrew Robertson.

Despite the transfer speculation, Gakpo played for Liverpool in their friendly against Como on Sunday and scored and provided an assist in the 2-0 win.

There is no sign of Gakpo being affected by the move talk, even though he is suggested to want it to happen, and Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof feels that is an inside into his character.

The Dutch journalist said that Gapko is not the type of player to create any problem regarding transfer rumours, but Spurs are seeking to get him through the door quickly.

Blaauwhof wrote on X: “Cody Gakpo is certainly not the kind of player who’s going to kick up a fuss when there are transfer issues.

“He scores and provides an assist for Liverpool against Como. Model pro.

“That could well make for a nice little bonus down the line for Tottenham Hotspur, who are keen to get the Oranje forward on board quickly.”

Last term, Gapko made 36 Premier League appearances and scored seven goals, while also chipping in with five assists to help Liverpool secure European football.

It is believed that Tottenham have made a £60m bid to sign Gapko, but there is ‘a good chance it will be rejected’ by Liverpool.

The Dutch international is not the only attacker De Zerbi is keen to add to his side, as Spurs are interested in Manchester City winger Savinho, though the club face strong competition from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.

Al-Hilal recently signed Crysencio Summerville from West Ham United for big money, and could look to do the same to tempt Savinho to come to the Saudi Pro League.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have added winger Victor Munoz from Spanish side Osasuna to bolster their attack, but will want to bring in other options as well after the departure of Mohamed Salah.

The Reds have been looking in the transfer market for another attacker, and Paris Saint-Germain youngster Ibrahim Mbaye is on their radar, but fellow Premier League side Aston Villa are also keen to sign him.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can sign Gapko, as the 27-year-old still has four years left on his current deal, and Liverpool are under no pressure to sell him this summer.
