Charlton Athletic's Tom Pell will join Tottenham as head of academy operations later this year.
Charlton Athletic academy manager, Tom Pell, is set to join Tottenham later this year, with the Championship club revealing last week that the key off-field figure would be on the move.
Pell joined the Addicks in 2022, and his impressive work saw him named as academy manager inside last year after Steve Avory stepped down from the position.
However, the club announced on Thursday that Pell would be departing in December after he had reached an agreement with a top flight side.
And, in a further development, South London Sport journalist Rich Cawley has stated that Pell is going to make the move across the capital to link up with Tottenham.
He explains that Spurs have identified Pell to take up a similar role in their youth set-up, where he will be head of academy operations.
So, the north Londoners have clearly taken notice of the work that Pell has done at The Valley over the past few years, and he will now get the chance to work at Spurs, who have Category One status.
Tottenham had been on the lookout for someone to replace Danetta Powell, who previously held the role, and Pell will start work with his new club in December.
The Addicks confirmed that Avory will be helping in the process of finding a replacement for Pell, which is a positive, and it’s a crucial position for any Championship club.
We know that London is producing a lot of talent right now, and Charlton must do all they can to tap into that, with the likes of QPR and Millwall having benefited from their academy in recent years, both on the pitch and in terms of sales.
Tyreece Campbell and Miles Leaburn are examples of players who have come through at The Valley, and the challenge for Charlton is to keep that going, although it’s obviously tougher now with Nathan Jones having taken the club back to the Championship, meaning the level required to get in his plans is higher.
So, it will be intriguing to see who they bring in, but it’s an exciting time to be at Charlton with the work that Jones has done, as they are a club on the rise as they look to establish themselves in the second tier before trying to kick-on again.
