Tottenham Hotspur are moving quickly in the transfer market after surviving relegation from the Premier League by the skin of their teeth.
According to Matteo Moretto, Spurs have “verbally agreed” a four-year contract with Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi.
The 29-year-old is expected to become one of Tottenham’s first arrivals this summer.
Tottenham were always considered front-runners in the race to sign Senesi, but the transfer depended on their ability to salvage their Premier League status.
Having done that with a nerve-racking 1-0 win over Everton in their final fixture, Tottenham can now get the deal for Senesi over the line after fending off competition from Liverpool.
Senesi will be available on a free transfer this summer after the end of his contract at Bournemouth.
The Argentine centre-back leaves the south coast after an impressive spell that helped Bournemouth grow into one of the Premier League’s most competitive sides.
Since arriving from Feyenoord in 2022, Senesi has made more than 100 appearances and has become popular for his defensive abilities both on and off the ball.
He helped the Cherries secure Europa League football this season, featuring in all but one of Bournemouth’s Premier League games while chipping in with five assists.
Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi has reportedly given Spurs the green light to get the deal done as part of the club’s planned summer overhaul.
Plugging the gaps in defence is a priority for Tottenham, considering only the relegated teams conceded more goals than the North Londoners this season.
Alongside Senesi, Tottenham are also closing in on a move for Andrew Robertson following his departure from Liverpool.
Reports suggest a verbal agreement had already been reached before Spurs confirmed their survival.
Robertson leaves Liverpool after nine successful years at Anfield, where he won several major honours, including the Premier League and Champions League.
The experienced Scotland international is expected to add leadership and competition on the left side of Tottenham’s defence as the club looks to rebuild and avoid another season spent battling near the bottom of the table.
