The European window has opened without a major rush, with England still outspending the rest and Tottenham especially busy. According to L'Équipe, Real Madrid are among the sides adding the most reinforcements.
With the World Cup in full flow, France’s market opened on 15 June, though talks had long since begun. Spending by Europe’s elite has been measured, with a few notable exceptions.
Tottenham have paid 60 M€ for Netherlands defender Jean Paul Van Hecke from Brighton, 108 M€ for Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali from Newcastle and 99 M€ for West Ham’s Portugal midfielder Mateus Fernandes. Elsewhere, Newcastle bought Reims goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen for 28.5 M€, a Ligue 2 record.
Arsenal triggered an option to buy Piero Hincapié for around 40 M€, while Manchester City paid 135 M€ for Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, the league’s third-most expensive deal.
In Spain, Real Madrid added Denzel Dumfries for 20 M€, free agents Ibrahima Konaté and Bernardo Silva, and Marc Cucurella for 60 M€. Barcelona spent 80 M€ on Anthony Gordon from Newcastle.
Italy’s market remains muted, beyond Gonçalo Ramos’s 74 M€ switch to AC Milan from PSG and Inter’s 20 M€ move for Aleksandar Stankovic from Bruges.
In Germany, Bayern Munich bought Nathaniel Brown from Frankfurt and Ismael Saibari from PSV, both for 50 M€. Leverkusen also landed Kerim Alajbegovic after his World Cup displays for Bosnia.
