An insight into the part played by former Sevilla star Bryan Gil in the club’s January deal for Alejo Véliz has been provided this evening.
The info comes by way of none other than Véliz himself, who this week sat down for his first interview as a Sevilla player.
Véliz, for his part, last week put pen to paper on the terms of a loan deal through the summer at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.
The move comes after the 20-year-old understandably struggled for minutes amid the fierce competition for places in the final third at thriving Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur.
And, speaking earlier today, Véliz went on to reveal that another member of Ange Postecoglou’s squad in north London actually played an important role in his eventual decision to link up with Sevilla.
The player in question? Bryan Gil.
Wide-man Gil, a product of the youth setup in Andalusia himself, recently accompanied Véliz on a trip to his former home.
And as much proved crucial in the Argentine ultimately deciding that joining Sevilla was the next logical step in his career:
“I came out here with Bryan about a month and a half ago, I got to know Sevilla and his village. Bryan always spoke very nicely about the club, and before I came here I talked to him. I asked him lots of questions and and he said, Go for it brother.”
Véliz also provided an insight into the efforts of his new teammates to help him settle, with yet another former Tottenham star – Erik Lamela – having lended more than a helping hand:
“I feel very lucky that I’ve been able to adapt quickly thanks to the lads, especially the Argentines. Honestly, I feel very happy having taken this step in my career. Everything happened very quickly. Coco has been so welcoming, We’ve already built a very nice bond. He invited me to his house, and we had a great chat, so I feel very comfortable at the moment.”
