“It’s my favourite match of the year,” Kulusevski said with a smile. And with good reason, the Swedish winger scored in all three of his visits to the Etihad and played a pivotal role in Spurs’ recent Carabao Cup victory.

Kulusevski admitted that these high-stakes matches are when he truly feels alive. Drawing strength from his faith, he explained that even when there are just minutes left on the clock, he doesn’t panic, believing in the possibility of a last-second breakthrough.

He also recalled his crucial 90th-minute equaliser in last season’s dramatic 3–3 draw at the Etihad, where he also assisted Heung-min Son’s goal.

Addressing Tottenham’s struggles this season, which include five defeats in 11 Premier League matches, Kulusevski emphasised the importance of consistency and discipline.

“To be champions, you have to show it every day. You have to give everything every day. I think we’re missing a bit of discipline in terms of consistency. The quality is there, the football is there, but you must deliver every day. You can’t relax just because you’ve won one, two, or three games. You need to win them all,” explained Kulusevski.

He also acknowledged the need for defensive improvement, even as he thrives under Postecoglou’s aggressive and dynamic playing style.

The freedom granted to him by the manager to move across the pitch comes with a clear responsibility: “Now I know I have to make the difference in every game. I have a lot of freedom, but with that freedom comes responsibility. I know I have to ensure the team creates and scores.”

Kulusevski champions positivity in leadership

At 24 years old, Kulusevski is stepping into leadership roles both at Tottenham and with the Swedish national team, where he recently captained his country.

Dejan Kulusevski also expressed his philosophy of leadership and team support, emphasising the importance of maintaining positivity and encouragement rather than resorting to negativity or criticism.

Spurs are gearing up to face Manchester City on Saturday, 23 November 2024, and Kulusevski’s confidence and form could make all the difference.

He explained that he avoids yelling at teammates or being harsh, as he believes it’s more effective to make players feel comfortable and supported before motivating them to improve.

While acknowledging the work still to be done, he remains optimistic that the team can unite and secure positive results against the reigning Premier League champions.
