Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence was heavily criticised for a subpar performance against DR Congo in the Round of 32.

The Spurs star got an earful from England manager Thomas Tuchel before the German tactician brought him off.

It came as no surprise when Spence started from the bench against Mexico in the Round of 16. However, he showed the resilient spirit that got him his shot in a Tottenham shirt.

He became an England international along the way and has now earned 11 caps, earmarking himself as a consistent player.

His performances have earned him admirers in Italy, and there is speculation he could accept the challenge.

Spurs will be wise to ignore any advances from suitors as Spence is a very handy player to have in the squad.

He can deputise in multiple positions and can adapt to changes in formations seamlessly. Manager Roberto De Zerbi will appreciate those qualities.
