Tottenham suffer Kudus setback with Leeds relegation six-pointer in doubt

Mohammed Kudus has suffered an injury setback, leaving the Tottenham Hotspur winger a major doubt for next month’s relegation six-pointer against Leeds United.

The club said in a statement that the Ghana international sustained a quadriceps injury in a 1-1 draw with Sunderland on 4 January, returned to training last week, then suffered a setback that now needs specialist review and possibly surgery.

Kudus has not played since that draw. Tottenham have not won a Premier League match without their £55 million summer signing, and they sit 1 point above the relegation zone with 7 games remaining.

He hurt Leeds in October when Tottenham won 2-1 at Elland Road, creating Mathys Tel’s opener before capitalising on a Gabriel Gudmundsson slip to score the winner.

Kudus had been pencilled in for a post-March international break return. Despite the lay-off, he remains Tottenham’s most creative player with 5 league assists and he has scored 2 goals.

Leeds visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 11 May, the third to last fixture, and the meeting could prove season defining for either side as both battle relegation.

Leeds also have fitness concerns. Anton Stach and Joe Rodon sustained ankle ligament injuries at West Ham last weekend and are expected to miss April, although Daniel Farke expressed hope for quicker recoveries. Before the trip south, the Whites host Burnley and Wolves as they aim to stay within reach of safety.
