Tottenham team news vs Newcastle

Things are looking pretty bleak for Tottenham right now, but there is a little relief for the trip to St. James’ Park, with Cristian Romero returning from his suspension. He should take his place alongside Micky van de Ven at the heart of the defence.

However, Thomas Frank still has plenty of injury problems to juggle, with Yves Bissouma, Radu Dragusin and Jota Takai not due back for at least another week, while we won’t see Dominic Solanke until late December due to an ankle problem.

James Maddison is, of course, sidelined for pretty much the entire season with an ACL tear.

Given the quick turnaround and poor showing at the weekend, Frank is expected to make numerous key changes to his starting line-up — with the likes of Xavi Simons, Djed Spence and Rodrigo Bentancur all coming in.

Dark clouds gather for Tottenham and Thomas Frank

It’s been an absolutely wretched run for Tottenham, who went down 2-1 at home against Fulham on Saturday for their third straight defeat across all competitions and fourth without a win.

In fact, Spurs have won just three of their last 13 matches, losing six times during that run.

Thomas Frank has, at least, been able to generate a little form on the road, with Spurs sitting second in the Premier League on away form at the time of writing, with 13 points, compared to just five at home.

Either way, pressure is already mounting on Frank, who now prepares his players to face a side they’re winless against in their last six meetings across all competitions.

Continue that run, and the Dane might start to get a sweat on regarding his future job security.
