Tough baptism of fire for new Tottenham interim head coach as Premier League leaders are first up

The north London derby takes centre stage in the Premier League this weekend as Tottenham host bitter rivals Arsenal.

OneFootball Videos

The former Juventus, Marseille and Lazio boss has signed a short-term deal as interim head coach until the end of the season, and is ultimately tasked with ensuring the unthinkable does not happen by securing Tottenham’s status in the division.

While Spurs are in danger of being dragged into a relegation battle, Arsenal are bidding to be crowned Premier League champions for the first time in over two decades.

The Gunners, though, head into the game on the back of a disappointing 2-2 draw against Wolves and could find themselves just two points clear of Manchester City by the time they kick-off in the derby.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Tottenham vs Arsenal is scheduled for a 4.30pm GMT kick-off on Sunday, February 22, 2026.

The match will take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham vs Arsenal team news

Tudor is expected to go with a back three formation for his first game in charge of Tottenham, though he will be working with a light squad.

The Frenchman joins James Maddison, Ben Davies, Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus, Destiny Udogie, Kevin Danso and Lucas Bergvall in missing the north London derby.

Captain Cristian Romero serves the second of his four-match suspension after being sent-off in the loss to Manchester United, but Pedro Porro and Richarlison are pushing to be available for selection.

Mikel Arteya has said he is hopeful of having captain Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz available for selection in what would be a huge double injury boost.

Mikel Merino is definitely sidelined after undergoing surgery that places any further involvement this season in doubt, while youngster Max Dowman is back in training after an ankle injury.

Tottenham vs Arsenal prediction

Usually the form book goes out of the window for a derby fixture. However, the appointment of Tudor means this clash has entered unknown territory as it’s nearly impossible to predict what Spurs side will show up.

The fact that Tottenham have been poor at home in the league this season, coupled with Tudor not having much time with his players in training and their injury situation, all roads point to an Arsenal win.

However, the Gunners have stumbled in the league recently and a run of two wins in seven suggests the wheels are beginning to fall off.

Draw, 1-1.
