Spurs dealt double selection blow ahead of London derby

Tottenham will be without Xavi Simons and Cristian Romero for their game away to Crystal Palace this weekend.

The pair are suspended after both being sent off during Spurs’ 2-1 defeat to Liverpool.

Simons will serve a three-game ban after being awarded a straight red card, following a VAR review, for a late challenge on Virgil Van Dijk.

With Simons and Romero out, Frank’s hand has been forced in regards to team selection, with Kevin Danso likely to come in at the centre of defence.

Frank added that there were no fresh injury concerns ahead of the trip to Selhurst Park, but maintained that long-term absentees Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski were still not close to a return.

Solanke has been out since August with a recurring ankle injury, while Kulusevski has been absent since the end of last season with a patella injury.

Frank had hoped Kulusevski could return before the end of 2025; however, his rehabilitation has taken longer than expected.

“The same as I said before, both of them. I will be very happy when I can announce how they are part of the squad. So, yeah, that's where it is,” Frank said in his pre-match press conference.

“I think it's much better to speak about it when they're here.”

Destiny Udogie is also out until the new year with a hamstring injury suffered against Newcastle, while James Maddison is unlikely to play again this season as he works his way back from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma are still unavailable, having travelled to the Africa Cup of Nations last week.

Spurs were much improved against Liverpool last weekend, but reduced to nine men, they fell to a record 11th defeat at home in 2025.

Opting to play without a recognised striker, Spurs looked more fluid in the opening 30 minutes against Arne Slot’s men.

However, with Richarlison coming off the bench to drag Spurs back into the game, Frank is likely to reward the Brazilian by bringing him back into the team against Crystal Palace.

Predicted Tottenham XI (4-2-3-1): Vicario, Porro, Danso, van de Ven, Udogie, Bentancur, Gray, Kolo Muani, Bergvall, Kudus, Richarlison

Injured: Solanke, Maddison, Kulusevski, Udogie, Takai

Suspended: Romero and Simons
