Tottenham Hotspur’s latest approach for Nico Paz has failed after Como rejected a €70m package for him.
Spurs had a €40m proposal dismissed earlier his month before returning with an improved €50m offer.
A fresh bid worth up to €70m has also been rejected, leaving Tottenham frustrated in their search for a new playmaker.
Como value the 20-year-old highly after his impressive breakthrough season in Serie A.
Paz made 35 league appearances last term, bagging six goals and nine assists to establish himself as one of the brightest young midfielders in Italy.
His form also earned him a place in Lionel Scaloni’s preliminary Argentina squad earlier this summer.
The midfielder underlined his potential again this weekend with a stunning free-kick and an assist in Como’s 2-0 victory over Lazio.
Manager Cesc Fabregas insisted after the match that Paz is happy at the club and has no reason to leave at this stage.
Tottenham’s pursuit comes after missing out on Eberechi Eze, who has joined Arsenal in a £60m move from Crystal Palace.
Manager Thomas Frank remains determined to add creativity to his squad before the window closes, but Spurs face an uphill battle to persuade Como to sell.
Paz has not indicated a desire to move, and is reportedly focused on continuing his development in Serie A.
The situation is further complicated by Real Madrid, who retain an option to re-sign their former academy player.
The Spanish giants can match any future offer for Paz and also hold a €10m buy-back clause that can be activated from 2026.
That control makes a long-term move to Madrid a likely outcome, and is another obstacle for Spurs to overcome.
For now, Como are holding firm and show no inclination to cash in despite Tottenham’s persistence.
