Tottenham Hotspur’s wretched season may have reached its nadir on Tuesday as the Premier League side fell to a heavy 5-2 away defeat against Atlético de Madrid in the Champions League RO16. The North London club was already trailing 3-0 after 16 minutes following a handful of costly errors from the Spurs’ defense with goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky (22) gifting two of those three goals.

The Czech was hooked and replaced by Guglielmo Vicario (29) in an astonishing move from Tottenham Hotspur manager Igor Tudor. “What happened is very rare. I’ve been coaching for 15 years, I’ve never done this. It was necessary to preserve the guy, preserve the team“, the Croatian said in the aftermath of Spurs’ 5-2 defeat. 

For his bold choice to start Kinsky in a high pressure game despite the Czech’s inexperience and his ruthlessness in hooking him off after only 17 minutes played, Tudor has been handed a very rare L’Equipe rating. In today’s publication, the former Marseille head coach has been awarded a scathing 1/10 grade by the newspaper’s Madrid-based reporter.
