Bitter news for FC Bayern’s second team: The regional league team has been deducted points by the Bavarian Football Association – an unusual punishment in German soccer

As the BFV announced on Wednesday, the Munich team was deducted one point after another massive breach of pitch discipline in the match against Wacker Burghausen at the beginning of December. The club must also pay a fine of 26,000 euros

Tenth offense in the current season

According to the association, Bayern supporters had „repeatedly set off pyrotechnic objects in the match in question and thus also acutely endangered players on the pitch“. The match had to be interrupted in the meantime

From the BFV’s point of view, the fact that this was the tenth offence in the current season is particularly serious. The repeated use of pyrotechnics has now led to the drastic measure of a points deduction

In sporting terms, the penalty has an immediate impact: The loss of the point means Bayern II slips to seventh place in the Bavarian regional league table, 17 points behind league leaders 1. FC Nürnberg II – a severe setback in the promotion race

Points deduction subject to reservation

However, the decision is not yet final. As the BFV explained, the deduction of points can be reversed if the club succeeds in identifying one or more offenders. An application to this effect must be submitted within three months, but no later than five weeks before the last matchday. The season ends on 16 May

The fine could also be reduced if the perpetrators are successfully identified. The deadline for submitting an application is one year

For those responsible at Bayern, this now means double the work: on the pitch in sporting terms – and behind the scenes in organizational terms.
