Toulouse have submitted a bid for Werder Bremen attacking midfielder Niklas Schmidt (25), according to a report this Sunday from Foot Mercato. The German 25-year-old spent the last two seasons with his formative club. He was part of the Werder Bremen side that achieved promotion to the Bundesliga one year ago. This past campaign, Schmidt logged three goals in 24 league games. His contract with Die Grün-Weißen is set to expire in 2025. Given his limited game time, the 25-year-old may entertain the opportunity to move abroad.

Toulouse have reportedly tested the waters with a contractual offer to Schmidt. The prospect of playing the Europa League group stage with Toulouse FC, as UEFA allowed the Garonne side to take part in their continental competitions amid concerns over shared ownership, may appeal to Schmidt. The French publication understand that Toulouse are waiting to know Werder’s stance on their attacking midfielder. The doubts surrounding the fitness of former Liverpool midfielder Naby Keïta may compel Werder to retain Schmidt.
