James Trafford has been named Championship Goalkeeper of the Year at the PFA Awards ceremony in Manchester.
The former Academy player, who returned to Manchester City in the summer, had an outstanding campaign at Burnley helping them to 100-point and promotion back to the Premier League.
And Trafford was also named in the PFA’s Championship Team of the Year to complete the double for the new City number 1.
He collected the prizes at the awards gala held at the Manchester Opera House on Tuesday 19 August.
“I’m very proud to collect these awards and of what we achieved last season,” he said.
“We consistently put in really good defensive performances and it was great to have been a part of that.
“I loved my time at Burnley and improved massively as a goalkeeper and as a person.
“I’m hoping to take all that into the new season now with Manchester City and looking forward to continuing my footballing journey.”
The 22-year-old amassed an astonishing 29 clean sheets in 45 Championship appearances in 2024/25, equalling the record number of shut outs in a season in English football – conceding just 16 goals along the way.
His haul included a run of 12 consecutive clean sheets between December and February, a remarkable feat which saw him create another Championship record.
Trafford, who first joined City as a 12-year-old, made his senior debut for the Blues on Saturday and kept another clean sheet in our 4-0 victory over Wolves.
Everyone at Manchester City would like to congratulate James on his awards.
