James Trafford’s late acrobatic stop against Brighton has been nominated for the Premier League’s Save of the Month for August.

With the Blues trying to hold on for a point in the closing stages at the AMEX, a deflected close-range effort from Jan Paul van Hecke looped up and looked to be going over the goalkeeper before he stuck out a left hand to claw it away.

Although Brighton did take the lead shortly after, it was a clear sign of Trafford’s ability that saw him make the move back to City after two years at Burnley.

It also earns him a place on the six-man shortlist for the finest save in the first month of the new campaign.

He’ll go up against West Ham’s Mads Hermansen, Wolves’ Jose Sa, Fulham’s Bernd Leno, Spurs’ Guglielmo Vicario and Nottingham Forest man Matz Sels.
