Tragedy strikes during Burkina Faso vs Egypt: Stallions supporter collapses at Stade du 4-Août and later passes away
The Burkinabè football community is in mourning following the passing of a supporter, Moumouni Traoré, which occurred during the 2026 World Cup qualifying match between Burkina Faso and Egypt on Tuesday, September 9.
It was Ouaga FM that broke the sad news on its Facebook platform on September 10. The incident took place in the stands at Gate 13 of Stade du 04 Août. According to witnesses, Moumouni Traoré, who was attending the match, suddenly suffered a medical emergency following an incident on the pitch. He was given immediate assistance.
Tragically, the supporter passed away soon after. News of his death quickly spread across social media, sparking an outpouring of emotion.
This heartbreaking event cast a shadow over what was a highly festive football evening for around 30,000 supporters present at this high-stakes clash between the Stallions and the Pharaohs (0-0). Moumouni Traoré was laid to rest on Wednesday morning at the Kamboinssin cemetery, a neighborhood on the northern outskirts of the Burkinabè capital.
For now, sports authorities have yet to make an official statement regarding the exact circumstances surrounding the death of this passionate football fan.
In these difficult times, the entire Foot Africa team extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Moumouni Traoré, as well as to all Stallions supporters.
