Transfer at the second attempt? Woltemade still hopes for Bayern transfer

Nick Woltemade was one of the big topics on the transfer market in the summer. A new report has reignited the issue and should give FC Bayern renewed hope.

Although the move to Bayern fell through this year, the chapter is far from over for the 23-year-old. According to BILD, Woltemade is still considering a possible transfer to the German record champions. Although the striker is under contract with Newcastle United until 2031 and a short-term transfer is out of the question, Munich remains an attractive destination for him.

The transfer made headlines in the summer and caused a stir even after the transfer. FC Bayern were interested in signing him for weeks, but withdrew when VfB Stuttgart’s demands exceeded the 60 million mark.

Rummenigge triggered heated debate

Newcastle ultimately paid up to 90 million euros – and received a hefty tip from Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: „I can only congratulate those in Stuttgart that they found an idiot, I’ll say that in inverted commas, who paid so much money. Because we certainly wouldn’t have done that in Munich!“

VfB boss Alexander Wehrle reacted to the statement – albeit calmly: „We are always happy to receive congratulations from Munich.“ The transfer fee nevertheless caused heated discussions. Rummenigge sharply criticised the price development on the market: „Guys, we’re slowly getting into orders of magnitude that I simply no longer find acceptable.“

Woltemade had already made it clear during the negotiations that he favoured a move to Munich. His advisor also hinted that the international was hoping for a transfer to the record champions. But in the end, it was probably not just the money that tipped the scales.

Kane as an obstacle to Woltemade transfer?

In the podcast View from the Lane, British journalist Danny Kelly explained: „FC Bayern are furious that Nick Woltemade has gone to Newcastle. They thought he would automatically move to Munich. But one reason he didn’t was because he knew he wouldn’t get any game time in attack.“

With superstar Harry Kane as the set centre-forward, Woltemade made a conscious decision not to make the switch: „He wants to play as a striker and that’s exactly why he didn’t go to Munich.“

Even though Harry Kane is still the clear number one striker at FC Bayern and could extend his contract at the Isar, Woltemade is sticking to his desire to play for the record champions one day. He is obviously banking on getting a real chance in Munich in the time after Kane.

After his transfer, Woltemade made a strong start in England. He scored four goals in five league games and has also scored for the Magpies in the Champions League.
