On the back of a very quiet January, Chelsea are expected to be busy this summer with a number of positions in the squad needing to be addressed.

Chelsea are thought to be in the market for a centre back, whilst it’s believed they want to add another midfielder and attacker.

Chelsea still in the race for Said El Mala

The Blues are reportedly open to signing players with proven Premier League experience this summer, but fans won’t believe it until they see it.

Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali has said the club will tweak the recruitment model, which has predominately seen the Blues sign young up and coming players.

The Blues have been linked with a host of Premier League stars including Morgan Rogers, but they are still looking at young talents.

El-Mala is a player Chelsea have previously been linked with, but it’s thought they aren’t at the front of queue for the winger, and Falk has now provided an update.

“Brighton are in the lead for Said El Mala,” he told Bayern Insider.

“But it could be that other interested clubs still have a chance in this race, like Newcastle and Chelsea. That’s because the Brighton offer was about €35m plus €4m in add-ons, and Cologne want €50m.

“If they don’t get this money, perhaps they’ll be open to talking with Chelsea again. This could happen.

“At the moment, the way is clear – El Mala looks very likely to be playing Premier League football next season.

“Now we have to see whether he ends up at Brighton, which is the current plan, or if FC Köln say it won’t work because of the money on the table.”
