Anthony Gordon was the player of choice for FC Bayern’s attacking line-up this summer, but the record champions have set themselves a financial limit and have been outbid by FC Barcelona. What this means for Bayern sporting director Max Eberl
Max Eberl is under scrutiny this summer. The Bayern bosses want him to moderate a transfer summer that meets all expectations. This means that there should be reinforcements, but at the same time the budget must be adhered to
For Eberl, this means that on the one hand he needs sources of income, i.e. he must sell players, but on the other hand he must not be too brash with new signings in terms of transfer fees. Eberl’s future beyond 2027 is still open
It is therefore interesting to see how the Gordon deal is now being assessed internally. The Englishman was supposed to move to FC Bayern and Eberl had already largely reached an agreement with the player’s side before Barca struck. According to Christian Falk, however, this is not a point that is now being blamed negatively on Eberl. The reporter now explained this on the Bayern Insider podcast

On the contrary, because the internal opinion is that the sporting director acted exactly right, according to which Eberl completely adhered to the guidelines he was given regarding the budget for the Gordon deal
This is one of the reasons why Bayern did not add more money in the end and try to start a bidding war with FC Barcelona. Instead, they withdrew and will now try to pursue other targets
Several media outlets recently reported that the record champions already have certain names up their sleeve and are now examining a deal. However, there are currently only a few concrete names circulating. As this position is an absolute priority, it can be assumed that something will develop soon.
