Promising news for Celtic supporters this morning as it looks like Celtic have taken a giant step to capturing Swedish international playmaker’s Benjamin Nygren signature with the Hoops now agreeing terms with the Nordsjaelland number 10 who has just six months remaining on his contract with the Danish outfit.

Earlier this week Nordsjaelland gave Celtic permission to speak to the player and it now looks certain that Ben Nygren has chosen Celtic ahead of a growing band of interested clubs, including Belgian side Anderlecht.

Anthony Joseph at Sky Sports late last night reported on these positive developments that are certain to excite the Celtic support this Saturday morning. He reported:

“UPDATE: Celtic have agreed terms with Nordsjaelland winger Benjamin Nygren. It’s understood the clubs are now in talks to negotiate a fee for a potential deal. The 23 year old is believed to have been sold on a move to Celtic, amidst a number of clubs in Europe interested,” Anthony Joseph, Sky Sports.

We reported yesterday that the asking price, according to sources in Denmark, appears to be around £1.7m so even allowing for a little haggling the player looks like coming to Celtic for around £2m – an outstanding deal for an established Sweden international player who is bang on the right age with the perfect profile to play for Celtic and make a real name for himself in doing so.

And Sacha Tavolieri, another transfer specialist with over 150k followers on X, has also reported that Anderlecht, one of the clubs competing with Celtic for Nygren’s signature have been informed that that the player is going to sign for Celtic. He reports:

“RSC Anderlecht now considers Benjamin Nygren’s going to Celtic FC! After talks with his representatives, RSCA understood Nygren choose for the Scottish club over them. The Swedish’s now expected to complete his move to (Scottish)Premiership,” Sacha Tavolieri.

Niall J , writing on The Celtic Star this week, gave this insight into the imminent Celtic signing. He reported:

Benjamin Nygren’s creativity makes him such a good fit for Celtic

Swedish international Benjamin Nygren’s link to Celtic overnight is certainly one worth paying attention to, particularly given the source of the story comes from David Friel, one of the few mainstream journalists with a track record when it comes to Celtic…

The player would be a good fit for Celtic and given our creativity took a nosedive when both Jota and Reo Hatate found themselves on the sidelines towards the end of the season, you can be sure Brendan Rodgers realised that isn’t an issue Celtic can allow to bleed into next season, with Jota likely to be out until 2026 and Hatate perhaps a doubt to get a full pre-season under his belt.

Nygren is an interesting link and an interesting player. As a youngster he started out with Utbynäs SK, before moving to Gothenburg where he scored six goals in 15 games.

At 17 years old and viewed as a breakout Swedish attacker Nygren headed to Belgium and signed with Genk. It was perhaps too soon for the fledgling star, and he managed only five appearances for his new club before spending two seasons on loan in the Netherlands with Heerenveen.

After 45 appearances and four goals Nygren moved to current club FC Nordsjælland where he has found his groove, scoring 25 goals in 87 top flight appearances.

Still only 23 Nygren has now found himself in the Swedish national side and after three caps has scored two goals including a wonderful strike against Hungary – well worth a look this one.

Nygren’s contract expires at the end of the year and Celtic are reportedly one of several clubs interested in a player who is now starting to fulfil his early promise.

The Swede is predominately a left footed right winger but has also played centrally and on the left wing. He’s a creative player with excellent vision and timing and can bring teammates into play, can find the game and has now become a genuinely impactful player.

Indeed, he looks capable of playing anywhere across the front line and perhaps even as an attacking central midfielder or false 9.

If there was one downside to the player at the moment it would perhaps be a lack of Champions League football, however, his performances in the Conference League have been reassuring with five goals in five games.

Statistically his numbers make for encouraging reading, follow this link for a closer look, but it’s safe to say Nygren is a goal threat, a creative chance creator for his teammates and he can carry the ball well under pressure.

If Celtic are indeed interested in Benjamin Nygren, this would be a great bit of business, given he is now starting to fulfil the promise he showed as a youngster but also because with just six months left on his deal, the transfer fee for Nygren may only come in between £2m and £3m.

We may of course have to pay a substantial wage, given there is competition for his signature from Anderlecht and Copenhagen, but Celtic should be able to compete with both those teams, and if we do I think we’d be signing a very exciting talent indeed.

Celtic have expressed a great interest in Swedish international Benjamin Nygren. The Celtic Star reported last night that our club has been given permission by his club to speak to the player to discuss personal terms and that these talks have already begun.

The 23 year old who currently plays for Danish Super Liga side FC Nordsjælland is high on Brendan Rodgers wish list with a deal is already being negotiated for the Swedes signature.

Not too much was known by the majority of Celtic supporters about Nygren until he was linked to Celtic earlier his week but that changed this week and watching  the available video footage of the player shows him to be a player of great calibre.

Nygren scored 15 goals and registered four assists for Danishg side Nordsjælland this campaign and he certainly seems to have all the attributes to be a top Celtic player.

Nygren who stands at 6ft 2 inches is comfortable operating across the front three, but clips show him to be more of a number ten and he possess a fantastic left foot and goal threat which makes him a player to be admired.

Remind you of someone? Yes he sort of resembles Matt O’Riley in terms of ability and we haven’t fully replaced him since he left for Brighton last summer.

Nygren could be that man, and with his contract expiring at the end of 2025, Celtic could land him for as little as £2 million. Let’s hope this is one we can get over the line, quickly.
