Travis Binnion under consideration to flank interim boss Darren Fletcher against Burnley | OneFootball

Manchester Under-21s boss Travis Binnion is reportedly in line to join Darren Fletcher in th dugout when the first team take on Burnley on Wednesday.

Fletcher takes over

On Monday, United confirmed that Fletcher had taken charge of the team after a decision was made to part ways with Ruben Amorim.

David Ornstein of The Athletic first broke the news that United had sacked Amorim after 14 months as head coach of the Red Devils.

United confirmed as much mere moments later via an official statement. United insisted that they had decided to relieve Amorim of his duties to give the squad the best chance of finishing as high as possible in the Premier League table this season.

It has since come out that Amorim fell out with members of United’s hierarchy, chiefly director of football Jason Wilcox. Reservations were mutual. Wilcox questioned Amorim’s rigid tactics, and Amorim bristled at what he saw as broken transfer pledges soon after the January window opened.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United are currently on the hunt for an interim boss, with a view to hiring a permanent coach in the summer. Michael Carrick has emerged as a contender for the job while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also in the running.

Meanwhile, Fletcher is preparing the players for Wednesday’s meeting at Turf Moor and according to the Daily Mail, there is a chance he will be flanked in the dugout by Binnion.

Binnion poised to partner Fletcher

The newspaper says, “In recent weeks it has been noteworthy to see Fletcher dipping into the Under 21s setup too.”

“Under 21s assistant Alan Wright has been dealing with a personal problem for the past few weeks and Fletcher has filled in on the bench alongside Travis Binnion, who Daily Mail Sport understands is under strong consideration to be on the bench with Fletcher at Turf Moor on Wednesday night.”

Should Binnion join Fletcher, it will be intriguing to see how the duo fare, having enjoyed relative success in the youth ranks.

The Daily Mail say that a source told them this about Fletcher: “Manchester United don’t need a coach right now, they need a good person. Players need to be able to play with attacking freedom again, play in the Man United way, and Darren will allow them to do that.”

The training ground source added, “He treats everyone equally, that’s one of his greatest assets. He is a huge believer in working hard – no doubt he’ll be expecting even more from his sons now – and he’s just incredibly popular with staff.”

All eyes are on Fletcher ahead of his press conference later today.
