Real Madrid entered last night’s UEFA Champions League game against Benfica sitting third in the table, needing a win to ensure a top-eight finish and direct qualification to the Round of 16.
However, what unraveled at Estadio Da Luz was a humbling experience as Jose Mourinho’s men outplayed Los Blancos on their way to a 4-2 victory, with their goalkeeper also getting on the scoresheet.
The loss meant that Real Madrid dropped down to ninth place in the final league phase standings, missing out on a direct passage to the knockouts, and now having to play an additional playoff tie.
Now, according to journalist Melchor Ruiz of COPE, there is tremendous anger within Real Madrid given what went down in Lisbon last night.
The loss to Benfica and the fact that they now have to play two additional games to qualify for the Round of 16 are among the reasons for the feeling of frustration within the club.

On top of that, there is also tremendous anger about the image of the team on show in a Champions League match.
After all, Real Madrid, known for their rich history in the competition, were outran and outplayed by a much more well-prepared and disciplined Benfica outfit.
The fact that the loss comes only a couple of weeks after they were dumped out of the Copa del Rey by lower-league side Albacete serves to further pile on the misery.
So, it is understandable that there is a sense of anger and frustration within the club.
In fact, as reported earlier today, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is expected to speak to the players following the setback against Benfica to try and ensure that the team gets back on track.
