Tresoldi confirms when he will decide on Italy or Germany allegiance: ‘50:50’ | OneFootball

Nicolo Tresoldi has made it clear that he has not yet decided whether he wants to represent Italy or Germany at senior international level, but has revealed that a final decision is only likely to be made in the summer of 2027.

Tresoldi comments on Italy and Germany choice: ‘Both countries mean a lot to me’

22-year-old Club Brugge striker Tresoldi was born in Cagliari but moved to Germany as a teenager and has since represented Germany at U19 and U21 level.

He has already scored five goals from nine appearances across all competitions in 2026-27, including in the Champions League against Premier League opposition in Aston Villa.

There had been calls in Italy for the youngster to be called up to Mancini’s squad ahead of the Nations League fixtures against Belgium, Turkiye and France in September and October –  Several other players with dual-citizenship were called up in order to fend off interest from other nations, including the likes of Honest Ahanor, Eddy Kouadio, Issa Doumbia and Mohamed Ali Zoma.

However, Tresoldi was ultimately not included in Mancini’s squad for the September-October international break and will instead continue playing with the Germany U21 side for the time being.

Speaking to Sky in Germany, Tresoldi has confirmed that he wishes to continue playing with the Germany U21s until the end of the European Championships this summer. He has confessed that he is still ‘50:50’ over the whether he will then decide to play for Germany or Italy.

“My heart is still 50:50. Both countries mean a lot to me,” Tresoldi told Sky.

“I wear the German jersey with pride. I love being here. I still want to play the European Championships and after that, we’ll see how it goes.”
