Less than two months after scoring in Egypt’s first-ever FIFA World Cup win, Trezeguet has announced himself in the Roshn Saudi League with a goal and an assist in Al Riyadh’s 3-3 draw at Al Shabab.
According to spl.com.sa, the 31-year-old was the club’s marquee summer addition, bringing top-flight experience from England, Belgium and Türkiye, and he struck in only his third RSL appearance.
Nominally a winger, he plays on the front foot, attacks space and seeks shooting positions on and off the ball. At Aston Villa he earned praise from Dean Smith for his direct threat and graft, and he hit six goals in his first Premier League season.
Trezeguet has featured at two FIFA World Cups, starting against Saudi Arabia in 2018, then helping Egypt win their first matches at this summer’s finals in North America before pushing Argentina hard in the Round of 16.
His club career includes standout spells in Türkiye, notably with Trabzonspor, and major honours at Al Ahly, where he lifted two CAF Champions League titles and played at three FIFA Club World Cups.
A scorer of big goals, he netted a stoppage-time winner against Leicester City in the 2020 League Cup semi-final, struck crucial goals versus Arsenal and Crystal Palace in 2019-20, and hit an extra-time winner against Morocco at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations. Al Riyadh lacked goals last season, and if he matches his Türkiye returns, three seasons with 10 or more and 43 goals plus 23 assists across four campaigns, he could be transformative.
