Crystal Palace won 1-0 against Ipswich Town in their last Premier League game on Saturday at Selhurst Park.
Ismaila Sarr scored the only goal of the match in the 82nd minute to earn all three points for the home side.
It wasn’t a free-flowing game, but both teams did manage to create some good scoring opportunities. Ipswich Town will feel that they should have taken at least a point from that game, but Palace’s defence stayed resolute, and goalkeeper Dean Henderson produced a virtuoso performance.
Henderson made some terrific saves throughout the game, and especially in the first half, as Palace jumped to 11th in the table.
Troy Deeney praised Henderson and hailed him as “excellent.” The popular pundit picked Henderson in his team of the week and said that the former Manchester United goalkeeper should be a contender for an England starting position.
He said to BBC Sport: “It was a very scrappy game against Ipswich – he faced 15 shots, with eight of them on target, and did well to keep a clean sheet in a 1-0 win.
“He is a contender for an England starting position. I know that might be a bit wild to say, but he has been excellent for Palace during their upturn in form.”
Henderson joined Palace from Man Utd for a fee of around £20 million (£15m+£5m in add-ons) in the summer of 2023, and he has established himself as the first-choice keeper under Oliver Glasner.
Palace will enjoy a long break from football and will return to action towards the end of the month when they face Fulham away from Selhurst Park in the FA Cup quarterfinal.
In between, Henderson will hope that he has done enough to impress Tomas Tuchel, who was keeping a close eye on a few Palace players ahead of England’s international games later this month.
