Troy Parrott scored a brace as AZ beat Sparta Prague at home in the first leg of their Conference League Round of 16 clash. Parrott’s 25th and 26th goal of a stellar season were both assisted by the excellent Ro-Zangelo Daal, who himself grabbed just his second and third assists of the season. While AZ will certainly be happy with the win at home, they will be aware that the return leg in Prague will be a difficult challenge to overcome.

Parrott will surely be on plenty of transfer wish lists this summer. The Irish striker became a national hero with his late goal against Hungary sending the Republic back to the World Cup for the first time since 2002. Parrott came through the Spurs academy but rarely featured for the now struggling Premier League side. After loan spells at Ipswich, Millwall, MK Dons and Preston he joined Excelsior in 2023 for a year long loan to the Eredivisie. His 17 goals in 32 games impressed AZ, who signed him in 2024. Since then, Parrott has been in fantastic form for the side. Over the course of two seasons he has played 85 games, scoring an impressive 46 goals. With a contract running until 2029, there is no pressure on AZ to sell Parrott cheaply. If he can have a successful World Cup, the price tag will certainly rise.
