Albion’s club captain has spoken honestly over what could be a pivotal week for the Baggies.

This upcoming week could be pivotal in the context of West Bromwich Albion’s season, with the club desperately needing points to battle their way out of the relegation mire.

The Baggies’ 2-0 defeat at the hands of league leaders Coventry City last weekend meant boss Eric Ramsay is winless from his opening eight matches in charge, with his future plunged into doubt.

TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook revealed that the Albion hierarchy are considering the Welshman's future, but he looks set to be given Tuesday evening’s home clash against Charlton Athletic to turn the tide.

A midweek meeting with the Addicks is followed by a trip to the Kassam Stadium to face off against relegation rivals Oxford United, with Albion’s Championship safety potentially hinging on the outcome of these two clashes.

And speaking ahead of these matches, club captain Jed Wallace has outlined that the club are targeting maximum points from both fixtures, as well as pointing out areas the team need to be better in if they are to achieve their aim.

With 13 games remaining of the Championship season, West Brom need to roll their sleeves up and show they’re up for the battle, otherwise it could be another game filled with toxicity and frustration for both the playing and coaching staff to contend with.

As per a report by the Express & Star, West Brom club captain Jed Wallace has revealed that the Albion team are targeting six points from their upcoming games against Charlton Athletic and Oxford United, while calling upon himself and his teammates to improve in every area if they are to push themselves away from the dropzone.

Wallace said: "It matters. It's everything to the players. Trust me on that. It's the last thing you think about. When you go to bed at night, you lay there. I'm there.

"I understand how everyone feels. I feel the same myself. We have an opportunity to change it on Tuesday, we need to stick together. We need to be better.

"We have to do better. We need to make more saves. Defenders need to do better. Midfielders need to play better. The attackers, myself, we need to create more. We need to score.”

The club captain added: "It's obviously been immensely disappointing.

"I always try and be as honest as I can be in these things, and to be honest, there's not really a lot to say. I've said it all, so it's difficult.

"Coming into this week I think six points was the target for us and we have two games now that are just huge. The goal after five minutes, and then the second one, it kind of sucked the atmosphere out of the stadium.

"We haven't scored a goal in four games. We need to give the fans something to get behind us, and they were behind us at the start of the game. We got in the final third really early in the game a couple of times, and it was a good atmosphere."

West Brom have to go on the front foot to save their Championship skins

While not many would have expected anything other than a defeat to Coventry City, the concern was how comfortable it was for the Sky Blues to record three points, with the Baggies barely laying a glove on their opponents by registering only one shot on target all afternoon.

It’s been a common theme in the short time Eric Ramsay has been here, with Albion so toothless going forward and far too open at the back.

While the defensive woes looked to have been erased in goalless draws with Stoke City and Birmingham City, the frailties have returned by conceding five goals in their last two games in all competitions, so something has to change quickly if Ramsay is to remain in his job.

These two games could well define Albion’s season, so they have to leave it all out there by attacking on the front foot from minute one and giving the crowd something to shout about.

As Wallace alluded to against Coventry, the backing from the first whistle was there, but such an avoidable goal in the opening five minutes sucked the life out of the stadium and gave Albion a mountain to climb.

From back to front, the players need to be better. While they still look poorly coached, it’s up to them to take the games coming up by the scruff of the neck and fight tooth and nail to keep such a massive club from falling through the cracks down to the third-tier.

It’s getting into the now or never stage, with only a third League One season in the club’s history becoming a distinct possibility.
