Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has insisted that the club will “try to find a new Rodri” after the midfielder’s departure.
The Spaniard has been instrumental to the club’s success of recent years, however the 30-year-old left for Barcelona last week.
“I’ll try to find a new Rodri,” Maresca answered on how the club can replace a player of his magnitude. “It is what it is.
“Rodri when he arrived here, he hadn’t won the Ballon d’Or. He hadn’t won the Champions League. He hadn’t won the Club World Cup. Then he joined this the club and afterwards he achieved many important things.
“So now the target for us is try to find the new Rodri.”

City have been linked with a number of midfielders as the summer transfer window nears its end. Maresca’s side are expected to make more than one signing before the window closes, although further departures are also likely.
The Italian coach continued: “I was thinking last night, when David Silva was here everyone was worried then Kevin arrived. When Aguero was here everyone was worried, Erling arrived. Fernandinho, Rodri arrived.
“It’s just about this, when they leave you need to be good and recruit the the next one. But they are all similar David and Kevin, Fernandinho and Rodri, Aguero and Erling.
“It’s just, it’s normal. It’s a change. That’s it, it’s not a problem. Just go again and try to do the right things.”
