Stellenbosch FC claimed a crucial 1-0 victory over Sekhukhune United in a Betway Premiership clash at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday.
The Cape Winelands outfit broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute through prolific striker Tshegofatso Mabasa, who was making his debut after joining on a six-month loan from Orlando Pirates.
With the hard-fought win, Stellies moved up to 13th on the log standings - six points above the relegation zone, having amassed 15 points from 15 league outings.
It was the club's first win under the guidance of Gavin Hunt, who took charge for the first time since succeeding Steve Barker, who left for Tanzanian giants Simba SC last month.
Stellenbosch will return to action with a trip to Algeria, where they are set to battle CR Belouizdad for maximum points in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Meanwhile, Sekhukhune dropped to fourth on the table, with 25 points from 14 games. Eric Tinkler's men will host Abdeslam Ouaddou's Pirates on Saturday.
