France were short of sparkle in attack but stayed solid to do the essentials on Friday night in Izmit against Türkiye. According to Le Progres, Koné was invaluable while Dembélé was less influential.
Mike Maignan was alert early, dealing with efforts from Yilmaz in the fourth minute and Uzun in the 28th minute.
After the break he produced a decisive stop to keep out a downward header from Bardakci on 51 minutes, then denied Güler on 75 minutes. On a difficult pitch he kept things simple with the ball at his feet.
Jules Koundé delivered a typically steady display, solid defensively but offering little in attack.
With the forwards still short of fluency, France leaned on their structure and their goalkeeper’s interventions to manage the contest.
