Romeu Tuma Júnior has returned as president of Corinthians’ Deliberative Council after two months on leave. According to Globo.com, he announced the decision on Monday.
He had stepped aside on 13 April after a court injunction suspended a members’ assembly due to vote on statute reform. At the time he accused club president Osmar Stabile of betrayal.
He returns amid a turbulent period in the club’s politics. During his absence, vice-president Leonardo Pantaleão, acting as chair, advanced the council’s handling of the statute reform. He also presided over meetings that expelled former presidents Andrés Sanchez and Augusto Melo from the membership, and removed three councillors.
In a note to fellow councillors, Tuma said he would make every effort to ensure the general assembly on 20 June is orderly and that the ballot result is respected.
He also reiterated that he does not intend to stand for the club presidency, adding that the moment requires calm, institutional responsibility and urgency.
