Turkish giants express interest in Real Madrid veteran but move complicated

Real Madrid’s defensive crisis has led to David Alaba re-entering the plans of the manager with Alvaro Arbeloa handing him 25 minutes off the bench in the team’s recent defeat to Albacete.

The Austrian star, in that sense, has racked up more minutes in the last two games than he has in the last two months together. His fitness struggles, however, almost confirm that Real Madrid will not renew his contract which runs out in the summer.

With the player almost set to leave as a free agent, the idea of Real Madrid pushing for a winter departure gains prominence and AS bring to light one party who are seriously interested in his signing.

The Turkish interest

As relayed by the Spanish outlet, Besiktas are eyeing Alaba as a potential recruit and highly value his quality and experience.

They are open to the idea of landing him in the ongoing winter market but the financial equation has popped up to be the big hurdle.

The Turkish club are not willing to assume Alaba’s complete salary of €14 million nor the figure of €7 million to land him for the remaining half of the season at the same rate. They lack the financial bandwidth to pull off such an operation.

For Sergen Yalchin’s men to land Alaba, they will need the player to accept a significant pay cut and for Real Madrid to take up a part of his wages – something that is difficult but not impossible.

Los Blancos, for their part, are open to listening to offers for Alaba, especially given his fitness struggles and high wages that make it unsustainable to keep him. Whether they agree to take on a part of his wages for an immediate departure, however, remains to be seen.

An added factor that stands in the way of Alaba’s potential move to Besiktas is the fact that the player is a known supporter of Galatasaray, Besiktas’ arch-rivals. Needless to say, that factor is not forgotten by the Besiktas faithful.
