Mike Maignan seems to be back to his best from a form standpoint and it comes at the perfect time because he is reportedly closing in on a renewal with AC Milan.

As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) report this morning, the start to the season that Maignan has had for club and for his country France suggests that he has put the difficult 2023-24 campaign behind him, another that was impacted by injuries and inconsistencies.

The only misstep so far has been the rather uncertain performance against Liverpool, but otherwise ‘Magic Mike’ has shown since the first league games that he is back to being as decisive as he once was, also demonstrating some much-needed leadership.

The paper recalls Lois Openda’s words after Belgium lost to France on Monday night: “It’s always a nightmare to meet him. We all know his level. It’s not a pleasure to see his saves for a striker, but I’m not surprised by what he does.”

In short, we could define Maignan as a sort of ‘new signing’ for this Milan, who will need his saves but also everything else he brings, to emerge from an existential crisis that must be faced by giving new certainties to everyone.

The Rossoneri management have no intention of letting a leader like the Frenchman slip away and he will soon be secured with an important contract renewal. An agreement is expected on the basis of a €5m net per season deal (currently salary €2.8m) and an extension of at least four-years.
