AC Milan went into their game against Juventus needing to win in order to re-enter the Scudetto discussions, but they were held to a very drab 0-0 draw.
This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes how the enthusiasm of the derby win and the victory against Real Madrid has long since faded, but the match against Juventus could have been the jolt that Fonseca and the players had been looking for.
Instead, a goalless draw played out yesterday evening as both teams never took the risks needed. For Juventus it can be understood that they might be happy with a draw given their injury situation, but Milan had to attack the game head on.
Di Gregorio and Maignan were ultimately non-paying spectators, with Tuttosport going with the front page headline ‘Never say goal’ and also stating that ‘boredom wins hands down’. The Rossoneri didn’t have their first shot on target until the 95th minute, a stat almost as damning as how the table looks.
Milan fans expected a reaction after the disappointing 3-3 draw against Cagliari before the break. The performance, in the end, was a big anti-climax and the boos at the full-time whistle let it be known that the start in the league has been far from satisfactory.
