It cannot be ruled out that defender Mattia Caldara could return to AC Milan at the end of the season, according to a report.
As Tuttosport reports (via MilanLive), Caldara returned to Atalanta in January 2020 and Gian Piero Gasperini has welcomed him back with open arms. He has collected 18 appearances, of which 15 were starts.
However, his fate is far from certain. His performances on the pitch and his physical condition will be elements that Atalanta will take into consideration when deciding whether or not to exercise their option to buy.
Caldara has remained on the bench in the last three Serie A games and will not be a starter today against his parent club. If in the rest of the season he does not convince, it is possible that he will return to Milanello.
A possible new extension of the loan should not be excluded, given that the player extended his contract with Milan until June 2023 before returning to Bergamo, but there is great uncertainty about the Italian’s future.
The Rossoneri for their part are hoping that Caldara can persuade Atalanta to invest the €15million they agreed a year ago.
