Emil Riis Jakobsen levelled with a low finish (17.), before Scott Twine swept in from Riis Jakobsen's delivery to turn it around (31.). Tomi Horvat later struck the left post in the first half.

Radek Vítek was busy either side of half time, tipping over a Morishita header and smothering from Ohashi as City protected their lead. Balázs Tóth also saved well to keep the hosts in it, but the Robins' defence held firm.

Rob Atkinson went off injured at the interval, with Neto Borges introduced, while City freshened the front line on 58 minutes to manage the contest.

Blackburn Rovers registered 19 attempts, seven on target, as they pushed late on. City produced 10 attempts, five on target, and hit the woodwork once.
