A pair of players heavily linked with a move to La Liga giants Barcelona will have done their chances of as much no harm with their respective exploits in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The first comes in the form of Jonathan David.
En route to a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Juventus, Lille frontman David bagged his side’s only goal of the evening courtesy of a composed finish, to take his tally for the campaign to an impressive 13 goals.
Being watched closely by the board at Barcelona ahead of the expiration of his contract next summer, the Canadian international’s latest efforts in front of goal will not have gone unnoticed at the Camp Nou.
Blowing not only David, but almost every other player on the continent out of the water with his showing on Tuesday, though, was Viktor Gyökeres.
Amid nothing short of a spectacular start to the campaign in Portugal with Sporting CP, frontman Gyökeres has also been hotly tipped to link up with Barcelona, as the long-term replacement for the aging Robert Lewandowski.
And, last night, the Swede proved precisely why once more.
En route to Sporting’s shock 4-1 drubbing of Premier League champions Manchester City, Gyökeres proved himself the star of the show, notching a hat-trick to make it 27 direct goal contributions in just 17 appearances this season.
Safe to say, Deco and the Camp Nou brass could do far worse than landing either David or Gyökeres down the line…
