Egypt’s U20 national team slumped to their second defeat at the FIFA U20 World cup in Chile falling 2 - 1 to New Zealand.

Early lead but another setback

Ahmed Kabaka gave Egypt dream start with goal inside 5 minute. But the Kiwis responded strongly turning the score around to seal the win and hand Egypt another painful result.

Two defeats in two games

The young Pharaohs’d already lost their opener 2 - 0 to Japan. This time, despite finally scoring their first goal of the tournament, they once again came away empty handed.

Slim qualification hopes

With 2 defeats, Egypt sit bottom of their group and must beat hosts Chile on 4 October to stand any chance of progressing as 1 of the best third placed teams.

However if Chile and Japan draw, Egypt’s hopes will be mathematically over.

African struggle in Chile

So far Morocco remain the only African side to register win at the tournament underlining tough campaign for the continent.
