England's defence of their European crown continues in earnest after the Lionesses, alongside France, reached the quarter-final of the 2025 Women's EURO.
In a pair of high-scoring affairs in St.Gallen and Basel, both sides, who came into the summer tournament with expectations of at least reaching the final, laid down the gauntlet ahead of impressive attacking performances against Wales and the Netherlands.
Here are two standout performers across both fixtures.
1. Ella Toone
Toone didn’t just score; she influenced the game.
Eight minutes after England broke the deadlock through Georgia Stanway's penalty, she produced a scrappy finish, adding to England’s early dominance in the opening 20-odd minutes.
Toone also played a crucial role in build-up play on the night and bagged a brace of assists that saw England climb to a 4-0 lead before the interval. Toone’s intelligence and pressing did brilliantly to disrupt the Welsh midfield in what would prove to be an all-action performance.
2. Delphine Cascarino
Cascarino was unquestionably the standout star in Basel.
A brace on the night highlighted her efficiency in the final third, with her first strike coming in the 64th minute with a curling effort from the edge of the box; her second arrived just three minutes later.
She also laid on an assist for Marie-Antoinette Katoto’s equaliser in what was a decisive impact on a night of high stakes.
