Bruno Fernandes and Patrick Dorgu have been listed among the ‘major names’ of players who’ve sustained injuries over the international break.

Given Manchester United’s form in the first month of the season, such sizeable setbacks will prove hugely concerning for Michael Carrick.

Of course, the biggest blow would be if talisman Fernandes was unavailable for any club action.

Portugal manager Jorge Jesus revealed in a press conference over the weekend that the United captain had finished his nation’s clash with Wales having picked up a ‘complicated issue’.

“The medical team identified those two [Fernandes and Nuno Mendes] players as the ones of greatest concern,” said the head coach. “One of them could be used in the game, and that’s Nuno Mendes. The other depends on the treatment and on today’s treatment, up until tomorrow, and on how many hours Bruno has to recover – or whether he can recover.”

Jesus added that Fernandes has been ‘playing with pain’, which could see him rested for Portugal’s Nations League tie against Denmark on Thursday evening.

The 32-year-old has already returned four goals and an assist in his seven appearances for United since the campaign began, while he’s also racked up 557 minutes on the pitch.

What happened to Patrick Dorgu?

As for Dorgu, he was hooked following a non-contact injury inside 30 minutes of Denmark’s 2-0 win over Wales on Sunday.

Given Luke Shaw has already struggled with one layoff this term, along with the fact that INEOS decided against signing a full-back in the transfer window, it’s imperative that Dorgu stays fit.

If not, Carrick will have to call upon either 19-year-old Harry Amass or natural right-back Noussair Mazraoui to deputise.
