Manchester City take on Aston Villa this Sunday at Villa Park. Pep Guardiola’s side has struggled in its recent matches at Villa Park. In each of the last two seasons, they have been beaten by Unai Emery’s side at the venue. Sunday’s game promises to be a stern test for City to overcome. Pep Guardiola provided an injury update on the status of his squad yesterday. Two players have been ruled out of the upcoming match, while City are hoping to have Nico available for selection.
Pep Guardiola faced the media yesterday ahead of his team’s clash with Aston Villa. He revealed that the same players who missed Manchester City’s 2-nil win over Villarreal will miss Sunday’s match. Those two players were Abdukodir Khusanov and Rodri. When asked who is unavailable for Sunday’s match, Pep Guardiola said: “No, still the guys who were not available at Villarreal, they are not ready. ”
Guardiola also revealed that Abdukodir Khusanov is close to coming back from injury. The young defender has been out with a foot injury since Manchester City’s 1-all draw with Arsenal in September. Speaking on Khusanov’s fitness, Guardiola said: “Close to come back but not ready. The injury is in a dangerous position.”
Lastly, Guardiola said that Nico’s availability for Sunday’s match against Aston Villa won’t be known until after his squad trains yesterday and today. The Spanish midfielder suffered a foot injury during Manchester City’s 2-nil win over Villarreal. He explained when asked about Nico’s condition: “We will see today and tomorrow how he feels. ”

It isn’t a surprise to learn that Rodri and Abdukodir Khusanov are unavailable for Manchester City’s clash with Aston Villa. Pep Guardiola ruled Rodri out of Manchester City’s matches against Villarreal and Aston Villa last week. Abdukodir Khusanov is close to returning from a foot injury but isn’t ready to play yet. There is no need to rush Khusanov back before he is ready, given how well Manchester City’s defence has performed without him.
Pep Guardiola will be hoping that Nico can play against Aston Villa. In Rodri’s absence, Nico has grown as a player and become a key player for his team. Given the strength of Aston Villa’s midfield Nico will likely be a key player for Manchester City at Villa Park if he is fit to play.
