Igor Tudor admits his Spurs side and north London rivals Arsenal were on “different worlds” in their 4-1 defeat at home.

Two goals each from Ebere Eze and Viktor Gyokeres gave Arsenal victory, despite Randal Kolo Muani having earlier drawn Spurs level at 1-1.

And Tudor admits the heavy defeat in his first game in charge was a reality check for Spurs, who sit just four points clear of the relegation zone.

“Of course there is enough time,” Tudor said when asked if he has long enough to turn things around.

“This was not the perfect team to play after three or four training sessions but in one way we needed to see, which is something good, if I can say this, to see where we need to be, where is the goal, what is the level.

“So today, totally different worlds. I have to be honest. Two totally different worlds. Physical and psychological levels.

“Arsenal are probably the best team in the world now at this moment so it was not easy.

“But it can also give us an excuse. We were thinking today that it’s a derby and in a derby we can give something more.

“I played a lot of derbies and coached a lot of derbies. For sure the derby gives you something more of mentality, of motivation, but there are also other things you cannot change in three or four trainings. It’s impossible.”

Tudor, however, stressed the need for his players to quickly re-focus and address what needs improving.

“I’m very sad, very angry, very everything, but in one way it’s also good to understand what is our goal,” he explained. “What is the goal of this club? What is the goal of this team? What is the goal of this coach and these players and all staff? To get serious.

“The medicine is you look in the mirror. Each of us look in the mirror and really try to start to change the habits. Working hard is the only way.”
