The Champions League returns, and Bayern Munich again carry weight after seven straight quarter-finals but no final since 2020. According to BuLi News, Vincent Kompany’s side are 6/1 fourth favourites to lift the trophy at Atletico Madrid’s Metropolitano next June, behind Barcelona at 5/1, Paris Saint-Germain at 11/2, and similarly priced English champions Arsenal.
Germany send four clubs this season: Bayern for a 19th straight campaign, Borussia Dortmund for a fifth, plus RB Leipzig and VfB Stuttgart. Here is each side’s best finish.
Bayern are six-time winners. They completed a 1970s three-peat by beating Atletico Madrid in 1974, Leeds United 2-0 in Paris in 1975, and Saint-Étienne 1-0 in Glasgow in 1976. After three lost finals including 1999, they won in 2001 on penalties against Valencia, then added 2013 at Wembley against Dortmund and 2020 in Lisbon versus PSG.
Dortmund lifted the trophy in 1997, upsetting Juventus 3-1 in Munich as Karl-Heinz Riedle struck twice and Alessandro Del Piero replied before Lars Ricken’s lob. They lost to Bayern in 2013 at Wembley, then to Real Madrid in 2024 at the same venue, 2-0 after first-half chances went begging.
Leipzig’s best is the 2020 semi-finals, achieved by ousting Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid before losing to PSG in Lisbon. They return after one year away and aim for another deep run.
Stuttgart’s ceiling is the round of 16, where they were eliminated by Chelsea in 2004 and Barcelona in 2010. Back after two years away, reaching the knockouts would represent success.
