Inter lost 2-1 to Atletico Madrid this evening, as the Nerazzurri’s 100% record in this year’s Champions League league phase has come to an end. After winning their first four matches, Cristian Chivu’s side lost in Madrid on Wednesday evening.
Football Italia’s Player of the Match was Giuliano Simeone.
Atletico: Musso 6; Ruggeri 7 (Griezmann 7), Hancko 6, Gimenez 8, Molina 6.5 (Pubill 6); Barrios 5.5, Cardoso 6.5 (Koke 6), Gallagher 5.5 (Gonzalez 6.5); Baena 5.5 (Sorloth 5.5), Alvarez 7, Simeone 8
Best Atletico Player: Giuliano Simeone – The coach’s son earned his stripes on the field tonight. The Argentine was a constant thorn in Inter’s side and worked as hard defensively as he did offensively. Gimenez was sound defensively and scored the winning goal but the winger’s contribution overall was paramount to the victory.
Lowest Atletico Rating: Conor Gallagher – Continued his poor form domestically, was outmuscled in the midfield, and failed to contribute whatsoever to the team’s attacking phase.

Coach: Diego Simeone 7.5 – Business as usual for Atletico who battled to a hard-fought three points. Simeone, with all his experience, knew exactly how to put a dampener on Inter’s typically free flowing attack and set up his side for a dramatic late win.
Inter: Sommer 6; Bastoni 6.5, Akanji 6.5, Bisseck 7.5; Dimarco 6.5 (Luis Henrique N/A), Zielinski 7.5 (Sucic 6), Calhanoglu 7 (Frattesi 6), Barella 7.5, Augusto 6; Martinez 6 (Pio Esposito 6), Bonny 7.5 (Thuram 6.5)
Best Inter Player: Yann Bisseck – The centre-back was good, despite his side conceding twice, and is quickly settling into his new role as Inter’s third centre-back. Barella also impressed but it was a disappointing night in the end for the Nerazzurri.

Lowest Inter Rating: Lautaro Martinez – A rare poor night at the office for the Argentine who struggled to settle and the 28-year-old was taken off in the second-half for Pio Esposito. The Inter captain has had better Champions League nights.
Coach: Cristian Chivu 6 – Nearly got it all right but it ended up going so wrong. Was always going to be a tricky test away at Simeone’s Atletico but his substitutes didn’t help the game and eventually the Romanian’s side paid the price.
